A Garda and two hackney cab drivers were charged yesterday with forgery and corruption in connection with the issuing of public service vehicle licences. The three appeared before Dublin District Court where books of evidence were served on them. Garda Oliver O'Connor (41), of Laurel Lodge, Castleknock, was charged with 13 counts of forging licences and corruptly accepting money for them over a six-year period.

Hackney drivers Mr John Fitzsimons (36), of Rathdown Square, and Mr Pierse Knowles (63), of Niall Street, both Dublin 7, were each charged with paying for forged licences.

Judge David Anderson set bail for all three in their own sureties of £500 each and remanded them to appear again on October 7th.
