The Garda Siochana has said there was an erroneous impression in yesterday's Irish Times report on the recent find of explosive components in a Co Cavan farmhouse.

The arms factory was discovered on August 16th, four weeks after the latest IRA ceasefire was called.

Yesterday's report said that Garda surveillance teams were understood to have followed IRA figures to the farmhouse up to and after the July 19th IRA ceasefire.

The Garda statement concluded: "The Garda Siochana has no information to indicate that this farmhouse was used by the IRA after the declaration of a cessation of violence by that organisation on 19th July, 1997."
