Detectives were questioning four people today about the brutal murder of a man gunned down in front of his children in Belfast.

A man and woman arrested in the north of England were among those being quizzed about the shooting of Mr Daniel McGurk, who was locked in a bitter dispute with senior "Real IRA" men.

Father of six Mr McGurk (35) was shot dead at his home in Ross Road, west Belfast, on August 17th.

At the time his family and security sources blamed the dissident paramilitary organisation.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokeswoman said four people had been arrested and searches were being carried out.

"A man and woman were arrested in the north of England yesterday and are currently being questioned at Antrim police station," she said.

"Two other men were arrested in west Belfast this morning."
