Freetown - The military junta in Sierra Leone has sacked five of its 27 members and thrown four out of the army for vandalising and looting the Iranian embassy on New Year's Eve, state radio said yesterday.

"They banged on the steel gates until they were forced open and carted off computers, furniture, videos, TVs and vehicles as if they were from a bazaar sale," a witness said. The sacked men were instrumental in bringing about the coup last May which installed Maj Johnny Paul Koroma as head of state.
