The Minister for Children has appealed to students who had long campaigned for weekend voting to come out to back the children’s referendum.

Frances Fitzgerald said the Saturday poll would allow young people at college to return to their home constituencies to vote on November 10th.

Ms Fitzgerald was yesterday launching a new website, childrensreferendum.ie.

“I hope the Saturday date will attract more voters but it’s up to the young people in the universities now, who have always looked for a Saturday vote, to come out and vote.”

The Referendum Commission would be providing a booklet and campaignAlso yesterday, the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI)has added its voice to the Yes campaign following a ballot of its members.
