Fine Gael’s internal disciplinary committee is to consider the case of former mayor of Naas Darren Scully at a meeting in the new year.
At a meeting yesterday, the party’s national executive decided to refer the question of Mr Scully’s future in Fine Gael to the disciplinary committee.
Mr Scully resigned as mayor last month and apologised for saying he would no longer represent “black Africans”, but remains a councillor.
