The landmark Atlas of the Great Irish Famine, with contributions from 60 scholars, has been shortlisted for the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards.
The 50-chapter atlas was published this year after 20 years in the making.
Edited by John Crowley, William J Smyth, and Mike Murphy from UCC, the atlas contains 200 maps, many of which have been digitised in an ambitious project which involved collating and digitising maps of individual parishes and townlands, based on census records.
Published by Cork University Press, the atlas is listed in two categories, the Argosy non-Fiction Book of the Year Award and International Education Services Best Irish Published Book of the Year.
The winners will be announced in the concert hall of the Royal Dublin Society, Ballsbridge, next month.
