The Fire Sservice welcomes applications from men and women. The lower age limit is 18 but there is no upper age limit for recruits. There is no longer a height restriction, but eyesight and medical tests are required.
Positions are advertised on a needs basis, so it's important to keep an eye on the newspapers for advertisements.
The current basic weekly pay rates for firefighters start at €368.41 rising to €662.03.
Graduate engineers can enter the fire service at executive engineer level. These positions are non-operational and are mainly in the area of fire prevention.
