The Government has approved an allocation of almost €8 million from the Dormant Accounts Fund to support 82 projects providing services to people with disabilities.

More than €5 million of the funding covers:

  • Transport to disability day services in isolated areas;
  • Grants to enable people with profound disabilities to attend or participate in special sporting events;
  • Projects to support people with a disability who have severely challenging behaviour.

Minister for Health Mary Harney said: "For people with disabilities, living as full and independent a life as possible is very important."
