Italy's record points scorer Diego Dominguez, has failed a late fitness test and will be unable to compete in today’s opening six Nations match against Ireland in Rome.
He was withdrawn just hours before the game because of a groin injury he picked up while playing for his club Stade Francais. He will be replaced by Ramiro Pez.
Dominguez’ absence is a blow for the Italians, but the news will come as a boost to Irish hopes of winning their opening match.
Ireland have won only three of their six meetings with Italy but are favourites to win today.
