Mark Farren opened the scoring after just three minutes at the Brandywell but the visitors restored parity in the 57th minute through Glen Crowe.

But just as it looked like the points would be shared, Stephen O'Flynn found the net in the 90th minute for a stunning victory.

The win lifts Derry three points ahead of Cork City who play UCD at home on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Shamrock Rovers eased their relegation fears with a 4-2 victory over Longford Town at Dalymount Park.

Trevor Molloy opened the scoring in the 25th minute but former Rovers striker Dave Mooney equalised four minutes later.

Mooney then put Longford ahead seven minutes into the second half but Rovers still had plenty in the tank and Willo McDonagh equalised before Lee Roche and Mark Quigley topped off a fine victory.

At the foot of the table, Waterford United recorded their first victory with a stunning 2-0 win over Bohemians while St Patrick's Athletic and Fin Harps played out a scoreless draw at Richmond Park.

Bray Wanderers lost 2-0 at home to Drogheda United, Simon Webb opened the scoring and then Bray's misery was compounded when Stephen Fox put through his own net.
