There is only one certainty about crime - that we are on the road to recovery - according to the editorial in the latest issue of Garda Review. When the Dail met in July to discuss crime, the review says, this was the first time the Government had officially accepted we had a major crime problem which had to be addressed with all the resources and urgency that the State could provide.
"The great difficulty was to convince our legislators and all those charged with the responsibility of maintaining public peace and good order to simply admit that we had collectively failed to do so at enormous expense in terms of violence and loss of life," the editorial says.
