Third man arrested after Clondalkin post office robbery

A cash-in-transit van was robbed this morning and a quantity of cash taken in Tallaght.

The incident happened at Cheeverstown Luas stop at about 8am.

A car was found on fire nearby, but a Garda spokesman said no arrests had been made so far in the case.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Meanwhile, a third man has been arrested after a post office robbery in Clondalkin yesterday.

Two males, one believed to have been armed with a firearm and the other with a sledgehammer, entered the post office at the Mill Shopping Centre and threatened staff and demanded money.

The raiders left the scene in a waiting car, and a similar car was found abandoned on St Patrick’s Road in Clondalkin. It is believed the raiders got into different cars at this point.

Gardaí later stopped a car and arrested two men aged 27 and 37 who were taken to Clondalkin Garda station, where they are being detained under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939, as amended.

A sum of cash was also recovered.

During follow-up searches a third man aged 25 was arrested and is being detained at Ballyfermot Garda station under the same provisions.

There were no shots fired and no-one was injured during the robbery.
