Gardaí issue fresh appeal over shooting of Adrian Donohoe

Gardaí have issued a fresh appeal for information on the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe, who was shot dead outside a Co Louth post office in 2013.

To date, no one has been charged in relation to the incident.

“Adrian Donohoe was brutally and senselessly murdered in the line of duty,” Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan said in a statement.

"The impact of Adrian's death is still keenly felt in Dundalk, amongst the Garda family, and the wider community.

“Most of all, our thoughts today are with Caroline, the children, and all of Adrian’s family and friends.”

Mr Donohoe was described as being dedicated to his community - not only to local gardaí but to St Patrick’s GAA club in Lordship, “and to the lives of the children of the underage teams he coached.

“The reaction to his murder is testament to the breadth of influence he had on people’s lives, and the depth of feeling towards him,” Ms O’Sullivan said.

Investigators said they remain committed to bringing his killers to justice with the help of outside law enforcement agencies, including the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

Appeal

“At this time, I would appeal to anyone with information on Adrian’s murder to come forward and help us with our enquiries,” Ms O’Sullivan said.

“The smallest piece of information could be significant. There are still people out there who know who the killers are.

“It is never too late to do the right thing. Any information provided will be treated sensitively.”
