One of Cork city's best-known charitable organisations, the Father Matthew Training Centre, succeeded yesterday in an attempt to prevent eviction from premises it has used for the past five years.

Judge Patrick Moran granted an interim injunction at Cork Circuit Court to Mr Terry O'Driscoll, for the centre, which is involved in the training and education of young people, some on probation.

The court was told the centre held a lease on a property in Connell Street, Cork, off South Mall.

The executors of the estate of Josephine Philpott, the lessor, were yesterday taking possession of the property, through the City Sheriff, following an order granted in Cork District Court in April.

But Mr O'Driscoll said this order was served on a Father Rock, who had not been associated with the charity for several years and is now based in Creeslough, Co Donegal.

No representative of the charity appeared in the District Court as a result, and the charity sought an interim injunction preventing its eviction from the premises.

Judge Moran granted the ex parte application for the injunction and said he assumed there would be a further hearing.
