Initiatives to improve the consular services provided to Irish citizens abroad will be unveiled today.

Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern will launch the consular services charter - Travel Safely, Slán Abhaile - and an online travel registration system.

Aimed at all those who travel outside the island for holiday or business, the charter is a detailed user-friendly document setting out the range of consular services provided at home and overseas.

Irish citizens will also be able to avail of an on-line travel registration service by imputing their contact details with the Department of Foreign Affairs at www.dfa.ie.
