The Task Force set up to monitor the foot-and-mouth crisis said it was concerned over the growing number of cases in Britain.
At a meeting today, chaired by the Taoiseach, members of the Task Force also highlighted the need for more rigorous controls to be put in place in Britain to bring the disease under control.
Mr Ahern was told that there is still no case of foot-and-mouth in the State and current restrictions on 694 herds/flocks are precautionary.
According to a statement from the Taoiseach's office, the Task Force will continue to meet and monitor the situation, and decided on the appropriate range of controls needed to respond to the 'evolving situation'.
