In the Irish Times of Saturday , November 25th, 2000, the headline "Supreme Court rules that suspended sentence system invalid" appeared above an article relating to the judgement in the case of DPP v Finn. This headline gives a mistaken impression as to the import of this judgement which did not, in fact, make any such ruling, but simply noted in passing that the concept of the suspended sentence had no statutory basis in Irish law.
