British police have charged a man with terrorism-related offences after he was arrested at Heathrow airport with a night vision scope and a computer hard drive containing a "poison handbook".
Sohail Anjum Qureshi (29), from Forest Gate, East London, is accused of preparing to take £9,000 in cash, a night-vision scope, two metal batons, two sleeping bags and two rucksacks to the Pakistani capital Islamabad for the purposes of terrorism.
He is also accused of preparing to take to Pakistan combat manuals and a copy of the Mujahideen Poison Handbook.
The second charge alleges that he possessed the same list of articles for a purpose connected with the "commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism".
The third charge alleges that he possessed an external hard drive containing the combat manuals and the Mujahideen Poison Handbookwhich were likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.
All of the alleged offences relate to October 18th at Heathrow Airport, when he was arrested by officers from Scotland Yard's Counter Terrorism Command.
Police sources said their investigation covered possible terrorist acts abroad, not in Britain, and was not believed to be linked to any other investigations.
Britain has been at a high state of alert, especially at its airports, since August when police said they had thwarted a plot to blow up airliners over the Atlantic Ocean.
