A six-year-old  boy, who was traumatised when he witnessed a drunken brawl in a pub, has been awarded €28,570 damages in the Circuit Civil Court.

The President of the Circuit Court, Mr Justice Esmond Smyth, heard that Robert Kenny had accompanied his parents to lunch in the Spawell Complex at Templeogue, Dublin, in April, 1997.

Ms Sara Moorehead, counsel for Robert, said a fracas had broken out between customers who attacked each other with bar stools and broken glasses.

Mr Justice Smyth, approving of the settlement offer by Mr John Kennedy, trading as The Spawell Complex, said: "It is clear from the comprehensive medical reports that he suffered serious psychological post-traumatic stress syndrome as a result of this incident leading to significant difficulties for him over a lengthy period."
