BIBIONE - Police stepped up security along Italy's northeastern coast after two pipe bombs were found on crowded beaches over the weekend, authorities said yesterday.

A sunbather at Lignano, between Venice and Trieste, was badly injured when one of the bombs dropped from a beach umbrella he was unfurling and blew up in his hand. The other bomb was found by a lifeguard but did not explode.
