Belfast man stabbed trying to stop car theft

A man in Belfast was stabbed with a screwdriver and beaten as he tried to stop a gang of youths from stealing a neighbour's car…

A man in Belfast was stabbed with a screwdriver and beaten as he tried to stop a gang of youths from stealing a neighbour's car today.

He was attacked as he took on a group of eight who he saw breaking into the car on the Old Suffolk Road, west Belfast, at 5 a.m.

After giving chase to the gang they suddenly turned on him. As he turned to run he was stabbed in the back with a screwdriver and beaten.

He was taken to hospital where his condition is said to be stable.

Police said they had no further information at this stage but have

appealed for witnesses to come forward.
