The Belfast-Dublin rail line remains closed today as a security operation investigating a series of explosions near the Border continues.

The operation started after an RUC patrol heard three blasts in the area of the track outside Newry in Co Down early on Saturday.

About 40 miles of track between Portadown in Co Armagh and Dundalk in Co Louth was later closed, causing misery for weekend commuters and rugby fans travelling to Lansdowne Road for the international against France.

The RUC has said the security operation was likely to last several more days.

Security chiefs are concerned booby-trap bombs might have been left for police or troops carrying out track-side searches.
