Bibio - A Mineral Love review: casting new shapes with the same sources

Stephen Wilkinson’s electronic craftsmanship has produced quite a river of sound over the years.

Albums like Ambivalence Avenue, Mind Bokeh and Silver Wilkinson have crossed the tracks from glitchy folk to golden pop to sparse experimentation and back to bring the listener on an exceptional sonic and emotional journey.

For his seventh album, Wilkinson casts new shapes with the same sources and influences.

While you can discern nods to previous works here and there, the producer is also keen to ensure A Mineral Love can stand on its own feet.

The melodic sweep of Raxeira, the blissful expanse of Light Up the Sky and the sweet folk tilt of Wren Tails – as well as Gotye's contribution to The Way You Talk – indicate that Wilkinson is still seeking out new environments for his work.
