Further details of Arthur’s Day – the musical celebration that will take place around the world on September 24th to commemorate the 250th birthday of Guinness – were announced this week.
As previously reported in this column, a number of high-profile acts will play venues in the brew’s hub city of Dublin, as well as in New York, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos and Yaoundé. Previously- announced performers for Dublin include Kasabian, The Enemy, The Undertones and Estelle. They will be joined by Tom Jones, David Gray, Razorlight, The Kooks, Sugababes, Calvin Harris, David Holmes, Jamie Cullum, Mystery Jets, Richard Hawley, Reverend the Makers, Noah and the Whale, and more. A number of Irish acts, including Imelda May, Mick Flannery, Republic of Loose and The Blizzards, will also participate.
Gigs will be split between four main venues in Dublin (The Academy, Vicar Street, Tripod and Whelan’s) as well as 28 other pubs around the city and a special venue, Hop Store 13, at the Guinness Brewery at St James’s Gate. Tickets are on sale from Ticketmaster from next Tuesday, and are €9.99 and €17.59.
Details of acts and the studio venues will be announced early next week, but the line-up for the pub gigs will be kept under wraps until the end – meaning that there’s a good chance you may catch Tom Jones in a cosy setting for under a tenner.
