A round-up of this week's commercial property news in brief

New plan for Station House 

The Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) is planning to refurbish the former Station House in Dundrum, Co Dublin, after agreeing to let it as a café and offices. A company based in Temple Bar has agreed to pay in excess of the guideline rent of €40,000 for the 1850s building which was damaged by fire about two years ago. An adjoining modern building, which was also vandalised, is to be demolished.

The letting is subject to the approval of the RPA board. Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has yet to grant permission for the refurbishment of the Station House. Ross Shorten of Lisney is advising the RPA.

Large letting in Cork

McAfee Inc, one of the world’s largest security technology companies, is to lease 5,666sq m (61,000sq ft) at City Gate in Mahon, Cork for its new 120-strong sales team who will work alongside its existing 180 staff. It is one of the largest office lettings in Cork in recent years.

The American company will have an option on a further 1,393sq m (15,000sq ft). The 20-year lease provides for break options and includes 135 car-parking spaces.The building, developed by John Cleary Developments, is to be fitted out by early January to coincide with the hiring of the sales staff. McAfee provides security systems on the internet to allow subscribers to browse and shop on the web more securely. Agent Downing Commercial handled the letting and Knight Frank advised the tenant.

Numode for Market Cross

UK fashion accessories trader Numode has leased the former Dynasty shop in the Market Cross shopping centre in Kilkenny city centre. It will be paying a rent of €35,000, including rates, for the unit which extends to 48.65sq m (524sq ft). The shop, like most others in the centre, was sold to private investors in recent years. Douglas Newman Good Commercial handled the letting.
