The low-down on who will win this weekend's Wimbledon finals

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Radwanska v Williams

(Williams leads 2-0)

2008 Berlin (Clay) R16 Williams 6-3, 6-1

2008 Wimbledon (Grass) QF Williams 6-4, 6-0

Radwanska on WILLIAMS . . .

“I played Serena a couple of times, but it was long time ago. I didn’t play against her in last two years. It’s always tough. She hits the ball very hard and she is playing great tennis on the grass. Most of the players are very powerful (in comparison). I’m just going to try to mix it up. Of course every match is different, so I’ll see how it’s going to be and take it from there.”

Williams on RADWANSKA . . .

“Radwanska has been playing well. She won Miami. She’s been consistent this year, more consistent than I have. That already tells me from the beginning I really need to go out there and be ready to hit a lot of shots and be ready to play hard. She has great hands and she does everything so well. If I come out flat, I won’t win.”

VERDICT

This is all about Serena Williams. Her serve has been immense, amassing 85 aces in the tournament to date and she's been unplayable for the most part. It's difficult to see Radwanska breaking more than once unless the American is way off in timing terms. Williams possesses the more powerful ground-strokes and if she zeros in on her returns, then this could be a brief affair. Radwanska will need to play the game of her life and hope that her opponent is appreciably below par. Wlliams in straight sets.

Murray on FEDERER . . .

"It's a great challenge, one where I'm probably not expected to win the match, but one that, you know, if I play well, I'm capable of winning. I mean, if you look at his record here over the past 10 years or so, yeah, it's been incredible. The pressure that I would be feeling if it was against somebody else I guess it would be different. But there will be less on me on Sunday because of who he is."

Federer on MURRAY . . .

"I know how good Andy is. Finals are finals. I've had my tough losses with him as well. I remember the losses I had against him in finals particularly in Shanghai where he crushed me, and in Toronto I believe it was. I had a good win against him in Dubai which was on a quick court. Honestly, we haven't played much in the last couple of years because of us being ranked three or four for sometime now."

VERDICT

Murray's challenge will first be a mental one before he gets into the physical niceties. Federer too will have his own expectations and ambitions and will understand just how difficult it will be to get another opportunity. If the Swiss player repeats the level of performance he showed yesterday then he'll win. Murray is returning brilliantly and his serve's been pretty consistent. Federer will turn up mentally, the Scot might not.
