Champion National Hunt jockey Ruby Walsh could be out of action until Christmas following his accident in the Czech Republic on Sunday.

He was treated for a broken right tibia near the shin at Cappagh Hospital in Dublin yesterday, having returned on Sunday night from the Czech Republic following his freak mishap.

Walsh was knocked out of Shannon Fountain's saddle in the closing stages of a supporting race to the Velka Pardubicka when a running-rail snapped into the path of his mount.

"I am more comfortable today as the leg was quite sore last night," he said.

"I have a plaster from the top of my leg down to my ankle, and the doctors say I will be out for between eight and 10 weeks."

Raymond Hurley has yet to book a replacement for Walsh on the former Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Imperial Call in tomorrow's Power Gold Label Champion Chase at Gowran Park, but Conor O'Dwyer, once the horse's regular partner, is favourite to take the mount.
