In a week when his son is defending the national strokeplay title, Portmarnock member Noel Fox caught the winning mood in the Audi/Eddie Jordan Classic in glorious sunshine at the K Club yesterday. With five net birdies, the 13-handicapper led his side to 89 points, four clear of their closest challengers.

Local members Paddy Whelan, Noel O'Callaghan and his son Paul, completed the winning quartet.

The quality of their performance can be gauged from five six-pointers on the card. Interestingly, the second-placed team did the same, but without comparable consistency overall. It was led by former Kilkenny hurler Eddie Keher, who contributed five net birdies off 12.
