Rugby:Back in the knockout stages of European rugby for another year, Ulster received some more good news this morning when plans to redevelop the remaining three stands at it's Ravenhill home were approved. The province will receive some €17.5 million (£14.7 million) in government funding to complete the project which will increase the capacity to just over 18,000.

Ulster completed work on their main stand in 2009 and the increased capacity when the new project is completed, up from 11,500 this season, will enable the province to host Heineken Cup quarter-finals at the Belfast venue in the future.

"A modern, fit-for-purpose and spectator-friendly stadium will enhance Ulster Rugby’s standing and will assist the development of the sport from the grassroots through to international levels," said Ulster chief executive, Shane Logan this morning.

Work is expected to commence at the end of this year with the redevelopment at the Aquinas and car-park ends of the ground being undertaken initially before a new grandstand is constructed on the Ravenhill Park side of the pitch.
