Derry City 4 Sligo Rovers 1: Derry City's new boss, John Robertson watched his new charges totally outplay Sligo Rovers and the Candystripes could have won by an even greater margin.

Determined and focused, the home side broke the deadlock in the 34th minute following a superb move down the right.

Gareth McGlynn made the decisive break and when he found Mark Farren inside the area, the striker controlled the ball before poking it home.

Derry doubled their lead in the 38th minute when Farren swept the ball to Killian Brennan and his centre found the unmarked McGlynn, who shot home from 10 yards.

Sligo reduced the deficit within a minute following a defensive error. Eddie McCallion appeared to slip when in possession and when Stephen Manson's cross was not properly dealt with, in stepped Matthew Judge to guide the ball home.

The home side increased their lead in the 56th minute. Ciarán Martyn, in his first game since returning from his loan deal with Norwegian club Fredrikstad, held off a defender after Sammy Morrow played him in, to find the net with a blistering shot.

Constant Derry pressure paid off as another McGlynn delivery found Farren and he forced the ball home on 77 minutes.
