McCullough to face Russian

BOXING: Wayne McCullough will face Russia's Nikolai Eremeev over 10 rounds at the Maysfield Leisure Centre, Belfast, next Saturday night.

McCullough is being lined up for a shot at WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison.

"I'm delighted my opponent is now confirmed and I can focus fully on next Saturday," McCullough said. "This is my first fight in Belfast for a long time and I want to give the public a good performance and one that they will remember."

HOCKEY: Wesley College, Dublin, won their first All-Ireland schoolboys' title yesterday in Farmer's Cross, Cork, defeating RBAI by 3 -2 in the final.

Wesley fell behind to a Cameron Black goal in the 21st minute, but they got a deserved equaliser in the 37th minute from the tournament's leading goalscorer, Peter Blakeney.

Goals from Blakeney and Michael Maguire then pushed them 3-1 ahead before Mark Gleghorne reduced the arrears.

SAILING: Gale warnings forced the abandonment of races on the third day of round robin two of the America's Cup challengers' series yesterday.

SAILING: American Steve Fossett claimed yesterday he broke the record for sailing around the British Isles in his giant catamaran Playstation with four days, 16 hours, nine minutes and 36 seconds. Fossett's time has to be confirmed by sailing authorities.

The record of four days, 17 hours and four minutes was set by Tracey Edwards on Maiden II in September this year.

DARTS: World champion Phil Taylor breezed into the semi-finals of the World Grand Prix at Citywest last night when he beat Mark Holden 4-0.
