BASKETBALL:11890 KILLESTER put one over former coach Mark Keenan, the reigning champions running out 67-49 winners over Keenan's UL Eagles.
New Killester coach Darren O’Neill was happy with the win but believes there is room for improvement. “We weren’t very good offensively, but you have to credit the guys for the way the stuck at it and remained focused. We have three wins from our first three games, and that is without having played too well. I think there is a lot more to come from this group of players.”
UCD Marian got their season off the ground with a 72-64 win over Belfast Star, while DCU Saints squeezed past Moycullen 64-62.
In the Nivea Women’s Superleague, there were wins for UL and DCU Mercy who beat Killester and Meteors respectively. Ulster Rockets defeated Waterford Wildcats, while Liffey Celtics narrowly overcame Oblate Dynamo’s 63-59.
This weekend’s action began with a gruelling encounter between Cork rivals Neptune and UCC Demons on Friday night when Neptune squeezed through 104-102. Neptune coach Mark Scannell was delighted with the contribution of American Ron Thomson, who contributed 26 points, and was instrumental in the team’s victory.
