Galway Utd - 1 Derry City 1:Galway United's frenetic search for a Terryland Park victory continues. There has been a touch of the erratic about both teams this season. Having delivered only one point out of a possible 12 on home turf Galway were under severe pressure, while Derry City's start to the campaign has also been disappointing.
The opening quarter provided a flurry of opportunities. Derry's Pat McCourt threaded the ball into Gareth McGlynn's path in the 10th minute, but Barry Molloy just failed to connect with the winger's blistering cross.
Galway went close themselves as Derek O'Brien failed to get sufficient purchase on Barry Moran's centre.
Derry's Ruadhri Higgins then struck the timber with a shot midway through an eventful half.
Derry eventually took the lead in the 36th minute when Mark Farren steered a delicious lob over the advancing Gary Rogers.
Galway responded within seconds. Derek O'Brien tumbled in the area following a Peter Hutton challenge and Stephen O'Flynn, once of Derry, rattled the net from 12 yards.
The second half wasn't as open as both defences reigned supreme. From a Shane Tracy corner Regillio Nootimer, Galway's polished centre-half, saw his effort go wide in the 61st minute. Derry substitute Kevin McHugh slammed a shot over following his introduction and tested Rogers's reflexes, but Galway survived.
