KENTUCKY DERBY winner Mine That Bird drew the seventh starting position in a field of 10 for Saturday’s Belmont Stakes and was named an early 2 to 1 favourite. Second favourite Charitable Man, 3 to 1, will start alongside the favourite in the sixth position.
Jockey Calvin Borel, riding Mine That Bird, guaranteed victory for the horse which would make him the first jockey in history to win all three legs of racing’s Triple Crown on two horses.
Trainer D Wayne Lukas, who has saddled up four Belmont winners and is running Flying Private and Luv Gov in Saturday’s race, said he thought Borel was getting a bit carried away.
“He’s had a little too much caffeine,” joked Lukas about Borel’s guarantee.
