The Beckhams' title as wealthiest footballer and partner could be threatened in the future by Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney and his fiancee, Coleen McLoughlin, who have seen their wealth rise from £6 million to £20 million.

Roman Abramovich is comfortably the richest investor in British football, with a fortune of £10.8 billion.

Despite his enormous wealth, Abramovich is only the second-richest man in Britain; steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal is worth an estimated £13.2 billion.

After Abramovich the next-richest investors in British football are Spurs stakeholder Joe Lewis (£2.1 billion) and Celtic shareholder Dermot Desmond (£1.25 billion), according to the survey in FourFourTwomagazine.
