Madam, - I am distressed to learn through your letter columns of January 7th that my Alma Mater, NUI Galway, has a Womens Studies Centre that "facilitates the development of women's studies, feminism and gender related issues" (sic).
This strange statement of its purpose further confirms the fact that there is no such academic discipline as women's studies (or men's studies).
I am disappointed that NUIG has chosen to follow others in establishing such a centre - inappropriate to a university - and hope that its activities are not supported in any way by public funding. - Yours, etc.,
