WOMEN IN POLITICS

Sir, - In relation to the recent suggestion that half of all political funding should be sacrificed by parties who do not field females as 40 per cent of their candidates, I would like to point out that this almost certainly precludes a male version of the Women's Coalition from ever emerging.

Such a group is increasingly likely, with men's groups such as Amen gaining a lot of sympathy. Is this denial of funding democratic? Put another way, if we insisted that each gender must be represented by at least 40 per cent of candidates to receive public funding, it is surely highly unlikely that a version of the Women's Coalition in the South would ever emerge. - Yours, etc.,
