Like Rev Christopher Hayden (October 3rd), some of my best friends are disappointed by the remarks of President McAleese at All Hallows. This may be a good thing.
God forbid we should ever return to the era of the platitudinous Presidency.
I hope our President will continue to inspire and to irritate. It is worth paying the price of being sometimes annoyed so long as the reward is a thoughtful, forthright and intelligent President. - Yours, etc.,
