A chara, – The death of an actor in a 50-year-old British comedy (On the Buses) achieved “top story” status on the RTÉ News Now channel sidebar, as did a plot update regarding Coronation Street.
Would the huge €65 million annual loss to RTÉ from licence avoidance by 400,000 households not rate top story status, daily, instead?
RTÉ management, if they watched their own channels, might see a connection between what they regard as important and what many citizens don’t. Should a technology ever be developed to measure which channels viewers actually watch, RTÉ television would be relegated to a news and weather channel, with an annual toy show, a decent land bank and a huge pension liability . – Yours, etc,

Sir, – If RTÉ wants to promote vulgarity on its 2FM station, so be it ("Comedy duo the 2 Johnnies apologise",News, February 24th). But why should we have to pay for it? – Yours, etc,
