Sir, – Your graphic (Weekend Review, August 6th) concerning Irish versus European prices, prepared by Eurostat, provides an clear image of the extent to which Irish people have been overcharged for food and beverages in comparison to our fellow Europeans.
Could you please now publish a graphic giving examples of the percentage paid over the average in the following categories: car pricing and motor insurance, school books and the cost of education, electricity supply including low usage standing charge and public service levy, home-heating oil and car fuel plus the VAT and duty on same, and white goods?
It might be no harm to categorise the cost of public transport for the benefit of readers, ie tram, bus and train fares. – Yours, etc,
CAITRIONA LAWLOR,
