Mother and baby homes

Sir, – I have been struggling to find a single word to encapsulate the feeling of betrayal at the evidence that seeps from the story of the deaths of all those vulnerable babies and little children. It is “unspeakable”. – Yours, etc,

PATRICK JUDGE,

Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin.

Sir, – Your front page headline (April 18th) was about the burial of babies in a septic tank, with the Taoiseach quoted as saying that our society had to atone for this treatment of its children.

The second headline on the front page was about the unhappiness of homeless children currently living in Government-provided family hubs today. These hubs were described by some of the children as being “like a children’s jail”.

Nothing has changed. – Yours, etc,

PAVEL MARIANSKI,

Dungarvan, Co Waterford.
