Letters to the Editor

Sir, – Regarding the question posed by Fionnuala Mulcahy, (“A year of Letters to the Editor”, December 31st), I believe allowing online comments on letters would stimulate debate: those who publish their views must expect them to be challenged. – Yours, etc,

Dr JOHN DOHERTY,

Cnoc an Stollaire,

Gaoth Dobhair,

Co Donegal.

Sir, – Thank you for making a space available for readers such as myself to at least aspire to make our views public in a safe and respected forum. Irish mammies worldwide may have declared “I see you’re busy” to a son or daughter upon reading their published missive on the letters page, but compared to the increasing toxicity of social media, we can live with that. Long may the letters page continue! – Yours, etc,

ULTAN Ó BROIN,

South Circular Road,

Dublin 8.
