Sir, – I know it must be difficult for the Israeli ambassador to have to defend regularly his country’s aggressive actions (Letters, September 10th). I am also sure the ambassador has read the full UN Palmer report, but for those who haven’t, it states on page 105 that Israel’s actions were “excessive and unreasonable”. Nowhere in the report does it exonerate Israel for the killing of nine people in international waters.

The inquiry also has called for Israel to make “an appropriate statement of regret” for the raid and pay compensation to the families of the dead, as well as to injured victims. – Yours, etc,
