Failing an Australian oral English test

Sir, – For a moment I wondered if it was April Fool's Day when I read of the Irish vet failing an oral English test which was a requirement before she was allowed stay and practise as a vet in Australia (Home News, August 10th).

I have a solution. Louise Kennedy needs to attend a course in “Ozzie English”. Since she is a vet, she needs to learn how to say for example “hins” instead of hens, “kittle” instead of cattle and so on.

I would suggest that the firm supplying the “voice recognition” needs to be sacked, sorry, I meant “sicked”. – Yours, etc,
