Eircom's service to business

ROGER DWANE,

ROGER DWANE,

Madam, - I refer to your front-page headline of February 28th "Eircom seeks limit on its duty to provide telephones" .

We attempt to run a business 24 miles from the GPO, Dublin - hardly, you would imagine, a "disadvantaged area" as described by Mr Simon Coveney, TD. The one thing we can rely on is that our phones will go down at least once a month - taking with them of course, fax and Internet.

With every bill, we receive an unrequited amount of very expensive blurbs with special offers and deals and suggestions that we improve our service by installing a "high-speed line". In response to these requests we said "Yes, this is a wonderful idea, please install a high-speed line immediately". That was two years ago.

Mr Coveney says: "Eircom are now a private company with a private company mindset". I ask, is there any private company that doesn't want new customers and treats existing customers in such a shoddy manner? - Yours, etc.,
