Sir, – David Murnane (September 4th) did not mention whether the swallows were flying Aer Lingus or Ryanair, either way leaving three weeks early does seem a bit excessive, even allowing for airport check-in delays. Personally I suspect the swallows' early departure is more likely due to the family cat than to any long term weather forecast! – Yours, etc,
