Madam, – It is a foolish gesture of Mr Jeremiah P. Walsh of Surrey, England (January 15th) to invite Catholics to abandon their faith and seek the ministrations of, in his words, “the home-grown, patriotic, well-run, democratic, theologically modern Irish churches such as the Church of Ireland, the Presbyterians, Methodists, and newer evangelistic churches”.
The problem is that, to any Catholic, such ministrations would be wholly useless. All these groups lack the Apostolic authority and tradition, the essential sacraments and especially the Mass. Further, by no stretch of the imagination could any of these groups be described as “home-grown”. – Yours, etc,
