Sir, – Fifty years after they were sexually abused by their teacher in Dunderrow National School and 12 years after a judgment of the European Court of Human Rights deemed these women entitled to redress from the State, Taoiseach Micheál Martin, who has been aware of this saga in his backyard all this time, tells them that “an interdepartmental committee” is looking into the matter and that he is open to the idea of “mediation”.
Presumably this is another of those interdepartmental committees that are looking into all kinds of unimplemented reports and policy commitments.
The track record of large swathes of the Civil Service in implementation is atrocious, yet there are no consequences. – Yours etc,
