Sir, – I note in The Irish Times (News, June 3rd) that the EU may impose fines of up to €5 billion on the Irish State for failing to meet climate emission targets.
However, in reality, these fines will be imposed on me and every other Irish resident, via the payments we make in income tax, VAT, customs and excise duties, etc.
It is our money that will be used to pay these fines.
It is the Irish people who will face the penalties and rap on the knuckles for the downright incompetence of our public representatives and administrators. What did I do, personally, to deserve this? Nothing.
